🔹 It was north of 100° that day in Warehouse K where this barrel was selected. It’s sister barrel, “Afternoon Moon - Barrel 9027” was also selected from a lot of six barrels. Aged side-by-side on Floor 6 for nearly 10 years, these two barrels couldn’t be different. Ricked House was a short barrel, dark copper in color and tremendous viscosity. A perfect balance of flavors of vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon and oak with a long delightful finish. Absolutely no way to stop at one pour 😋

🩺Vitals: Blend of MGP Bourbon (64%🌽32% Rye🌾4% Malted Barley) and Stranahan’s 100% Single Malt Whiskey - 84 Proof - Aged 10 Years
🤿Let’s Dive In: Nose of vanilla, honey and oak. Nice viscosity in the glass. Flavors of vanilla, spice and oak. Finish is on the thin side with lingering dry oak.
👨🏻⚖️Verdict: I want to try Tincup 10 at 99 proof (rather than 84 proof). You would expect the 10 year MGP high-rye bourbon to deliver more flavors of spice and creamy caramel with a longer finish. Maybe the single malt whiskey mellowed the blend, or perhaps it simply needs to be bottled at a higher proof.

I keep going back to this Five Trail Blended Whiskey by Coors Whiskey Company. That alone should tell you something. There are bottles I’ve opened and left on a shelf for months or even years with no real interest in going back for another sip. Five Trail is different. It is smooth and silky and leaves you wanting more. It tastes much more mature than a whiskey that’s made primarily of 4 year old components. That’s because it’s balanced with a 13 year Kentucky straight bourbon. It’s proofed down to 95 with the same Rocky Mountain water that made Coors beer successful for nearly 150 years.
Mashbill:
👉🏻45% 4 year-old Indiana wheated bourbon👉🏻 35% 4 year-old Kentucky 4 grain bourbo
👉🏻 15% 4 year-old Colorado single malt whiskey
👉🏻 5% 13 year-old Kentucky straight bourbon
Nose: It’s sweet with notes of honey, fruit and subtle baking spice.
Pallet: Vanilla, very subtle oak, caramel, and oats.
Finish: Moderate spicy finish with a silky coat that makes you want to take another sip.
Overall: This is a definite buy and one you’ll come back to for an evening sip or after dinner treat. 👏👏👏

👨🏻⚖️ Verdict: The wheated mash bill and farm to table ingredients are evident in this Batch 1 bourbon release. The flavors are certainly distinct from other mainstream wheated bourbons. Would like to do a taste comparison against Larceny Barrel Proof and Maker’s Cask Strength to see how it measures up. Regardless, definitely worth the purchase if you can find it 😋

🧑🏽⚖️Verdict: Port and Rye whiskey seem to be a good finishing fit. The port isn’t overwhelming and mellow some of the spicy flavors that come from rye. Going to work through this bottle over the next few days and follow up with additional notes.
